If you'd like Swiss chocolate, tell me now...

So Im going to Switzerland.

Yay!

Now that Ive allowed myself that exuberant announcement, Ill explain why.

Back in mid 2010, a couple of friends of mine were sponsored to attend the inaugural One Young World conference in London. It seemed pretty cool. Big wigs like Desmond Tutu, Bob Geldof and Kofi Annan were attending so surely, it was bound to be an amazing conference right? Turns out, it was!

One Young World bring young leaders from around the world for the purpose of finding solutions to global problems. The summit in 2010 focused on 6 key Resolutions developed in response to the most pressing issues in the world today, as identified by the One Young World Global Consultation Process- a poll of over 15,000 respondents aged 18-27 years old from 34 countries in every continent on the planet.

Perhaps more importantly, it gave young people around the world the chance to network and build bridges between different nations. I didnt even go to the conference last year but have benefited from the amazing contacts made from the Summit by the friends that did. And that guys, is the power of social networking. Of technology. And indeed, of the infectious passion and commitment that young people display when theyve found a cause they believe in.

I hope to bring this energy and excitement back to Sydney post-OYW 2011 and arm myself with fresh ideas about how global networks can work together to make a real and lasting change in this world. This blog will be used as a reservoir of ideas, thoughts, insights and experiences by many different people all following the path of implementing social change. Subscribe to stay updated!

I would like to send my deepest thanks to the University of Sydney Union and Crescent Investments Australia for giving me the opportunity to attend this conference. You guys rock!! :)
